Competition for the planning of the seafront of A Pobra do Caramiñal

Entries under evaluation
23 June 2025 — 23 September 2025

With the technical support of Fundación RIA and in collaboration with COAG, the Council of A Pobra do Caramiñal is launching a public ideas competition to redefine and plan the transformation of its seafront. This initiative, made possible thanks to the backing of Fundación MOP, aims to improve mobility, integrate the weekly market, and enhance the quality of public space, promoting a more accessible, liveable, and sustainable urban model.

Since 2024, the Marta Ortega Pérez Foundation (MOP) has been collaborating with Fundación RIA to fund human, technical and financial resources that support local councils in the planning of strategic projects. Focusing on the quality of public space, the reorganisation of the weekly market and the improvement of mobility, this competition offers €33,000 in prizes and the commission to develop the masterplan.

The call for entries is based on a preliminary study carried out by Fundación RIA in collaboration with the Galician Agency for Infrastructures (AXI), which analyses the town’s urban dynamics and identifies the need to rethink mobility and the layout of the port and commercial front.

The procedure is open, anonymous, and held in a single stage with a jury. Proposals must address the organisation of public space along the seafront, with particular attention to the reorganisation of the weekly market, and include strategies related to mobility, green infrastructure, circularity, or the involvement of local stakeholders.

Three monetary prizes will be awarded:

— First prize: €20,000 and the commission for the masterplan contract, valued at €50,000
— Second prize: €8,000
— Third prize: €5,000

The jury is chaired by the Mayor of A Pobra do Caramiñal and includes Alfonso Salgado (Salgado e Liñares), Elizabeth Abalo (Abalo Alonso Arquitectos), Marcial Rodríguez (RVR Arquitectos), a representative of the Galician Association of Civil Engineers, and Miguel Martínez Castro, the municipal architect.

The deadline for submitting proposals has been extended to three months from the official publication of the call, ending on 23 September at 1 pm. The competition is open to individuals or legal entities, as well as interdisciplinary teams with recognised expertise in architecture, engineering, and urban planning.
