Finsa announces the finalist teams of the A Panda da Dá architecture competition

21 January 2025

Finsa today announced the 5 finalist teams in the architectural competition for the rehabilitation of the A Panda da Dá estate, an initiative that – in collaboration with Fundación RIA – seeks to consolidate this 410-hectare site as a benchmark for sustainable land management.

After a significant participation in this first phase with 54 high quality entries, the jury has chosen by curricular selection the 5 teams that will develop their proposals for A Panda da Dá in the coming months.

Both Finsa – the timber company promoting the competition – and the three architects on the jury – Aurora Armental (Estar estudio), Graça Correia (Correia Ragazzi) and Carme Pinós (Estudio Carme Pinós) – would like to thank the 54 teams that entered the competition for their participation and particularly appreciate the overall quality of the entries, which made the selection process particularly complex.

As reflected in the jury’s decision, the five finalist teams are:

—Arrokabe Arquitectos
—Atelier Ander Bados + Estudio Copla + Bamba Studio + TO Arquitectura
—Brandão Costa Arquitectos
—CoLab + Assemble
—João Mendes Ribeiro + Luísa Bebiano

The call, which began with an initial phase of curricular evaluation of the 54 proposals received, is now entering a second phase in which the 5 finalist teams will prepare schematic design projects for the estate, with a period of 60 days for their development. This period will begin after a scheduled visit to the estate to get to know its characteristics and needs.

By the end of April, the jury will meet again to evaluate the proposals, at which time the winner of the competition will be chosen. The winning team will receive an economic award of €20,000 and the contract of the refurbishment project, while the other four finalists will receive €5,000, in order to remunerate the work of the participating teams.

Fundación RIA has collaborated in this process by preparing the preliminary studies that allowed the configuration of a new functional programme for the estate, as well as supporting Finsa in the approach, development and communication of the competition.

With this call, Finsa continues the process of consolidating A Panda da Dá as a space of opportunities for the forestry sector and research, promoting architectural innovation and the enhancement of Galicia’s natural and cultural heritage.
