Architectural competition for the restoration of the Lourizán estate and Pazo in Pontevedra

4 October 2023

Applications will address the refurbishment of the existing listed buildings and their adaptation to meet the needs of the new complex, a landscaping intervention on the estate and may also propose other complementary actions, such as the construction of a new building.

The Xunta de Galicia promotes through the Axencia Galega da Industria Forestal—dependent of the Consellería de Medio Rural—an ideas competition for the rehabilitation of the Lourizán complex and the implementation of a new program of uses that consolidates the farm as a reference for training, research and forestry dissemination and as a meeting point for the sector.

In this process, Fundación RIA has participated in the design of a functional program that allows the rehabilitation of the Pazo and the estate of Lourizán while positioning the complex at the centre of innovation, development and protection of the natural environment.

The competition at preliminary design level has been published today on the Public Procurement Platform. It is an open procedure and will consist of two phases, in order to limit the number of participants.

Applications must consider the rehabilitation of the existing protected buildings on the plot and their adaptation to meet the needs of the new Lourizán forestry complex. In addition to the possibility of proposing the construction of a new building and other complementary actions, there will also be a landscape intervention.

The best proposals submitted will receive prizes of 48,400 €, 24,200 €, 18,150 € and five runners-up prizes of 12,100 € each. Additionally, the winning team will be awarded the subsequent service contract for the drafting of the basic and execution project and, in its case, for the works management. The estimated value of this contract is 1,398,283€.
