MIT awards the Leventhal City Prize to the project “A cunca do río Eume: unha paisaxe enerxética”
The project, in which RIA is participating, explores how to develop an environmentally and socially just energy transition in the Eume River basin.
The Leventhal City Prize is an award presented by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology that recognises highly innovative projects in the field of urban planning, developed in collaboration with public administrations.
‘A cunca do río Eume: unha paisaxe enerxética’ is based on research carried out by Estar and Luís Díaz Díaz for the Spanish Pavilion at the 2025 Venice Architecture Biennale, curated by Roi Salgueiro Barrio and Manuel Bouzas Barcala under the title ‘Internalities: Architectures for Territorial Equilibrium’.
The initiative, led by Aurora Armental, Stefano Ciurlo, Luís Díaz Díaz and Roi Salgueiro Barrio, with the collaboration of RIA, involves the development of a territorial framework for the implementation of renewable energies and proposes three pilot projects to decentralise energy production.
Overall, ‘A cunca do río Eume: unha paisaxe enerxética’ advocates for a model of territorial energy planning aimed at reconciling energy, landscape and ecology with economic development, seeking formulas that can be transferred to other territories in the process of decarbonisation.
The technical team for this project will work alongside Fundación RIA in a role of mediation and territorial governance, promoting coordination between administrations, productive sectors, local communities and environmental actors.
