The event brought together local residents, public representatives and partner organisations to present this new phase of the project, focused on activating the community spaces created in recent years – the public housing unit, community kitchen and new social centre – and on promoting activities capable of strengthening community life and creating new opportunities for the area. Participants included Luis Milia, Mayor of Carballeda de Avia; Marta Mariño, Director General for Self-Employment and Social Economy; and representatives from Fundación RIA, Sende and Anceu Coliving, organisations involved in the development of the initiative.

The event also served to introduce Lucía Abuchdid, selected through the open call launched this spring to undertake a community engagement residency in the village over the coming months. Her work will focus on organising activities with local residents, artistic residencies and cultural and social initiatives aimed at strengthening collective life and attracting new dynamics to the area. This residency represents the first step in a programme designed to explore new ways of living, collaborating and developing entrepreneurial initiatives in rural Galicia.

Muimenta viva builds on the territorial revitalisation strategy developed in the village over recent years, based on the recovery of built heritage, the creation of new public facilities and the social activation of the territory.

The project seeks to establish Muimenta as a benchmark for social and territorial innovation, exploring the potential of a future public rural coliving model capable of attracting and retaining residents, encouraging intergenerational living and creating new opportunities to live and work in rural areas. This strategy was recently recognised with the Spanish National Prize for Architecture’s Casa de la Arquitectura Award in the Public Action category, acknowledging Muimenta as an outstanding example of rural revitalisation through planning, architecture and institutional collaboration.
