Resolution of the Lourizán competition that will re-launch the complex as a reference in the forestry sector
The joint venture comprising the studios of Carme Pinós and Carles Enrich unanimously won the architectural competition for the refurbishment of the Lourizán complex and the implementation of a new programme of uses that will consolidate the estate as a benchmark in the forestry sector.
Since 2021 and commissioned by the Xunta de Galicia, Fundación RIA developed a detailed study of the needs of the Lourizán estate, incorporating the demands of the institutions present there and the vision of representatives of the forestry chain in Galicia.
This study of needs gave rise to a roadmap of priority actions, which formed the basis of an architectural competition for the refurbishment of the Lourizán complex and the implementation of a new programme of uses that would consolidate the estate as a reference point for training, research, forest dissemination and as a meeting point for the sector.
The first phase of the competition was open to applications from architecture and landscaping professionals. From a total of 33 applications received, 8 teams were selected to move on to the second phase, based on their professional experience and solvency.
The competition jury evaluated the preliminary projects, awarded prizes to the best proposals and selected the winning team, formed by the studios of Carme Pinós and Carles Enrich, which will develop the project that will become a reality. The aim of this project is not only to recover the historical value of the pazo, but also to transform it into a model of modernity and ecology in line with contemporary challenges.
The rehabilitation of the pazo aims to go beyond restoring its original splendour, improving its environmental conditions through the creation of a renaturalised pedestrian connection space, which will link the different buildings in the area, and a new garden that will act as a dynamic meeting point, encouraging biodiversity and promoting interaction between the different users.

The projects that reached the final phase will be part of an exhibition in Pontevedra, which will be open to the public from Thursday 14 November.
