Rural Resilient Territory Forum launches an alliance for the future of rural Galicia

29 May 2026

The collaborative process behind the Rural Resilient Territory Forum culminated in a gathering at the Cidade da Cultura, bringing together more than 230 participants and leading to the creation of the Alliance for a Rural Resilient Territory. Fundación RIA contributed to the process by coordinating one of the working groups focused on territorial governance and cooperation between public authorities, private actors and local communities.

Following three months of collective work, the Rural Resilient Territory Forum held its concluding event on 28 May at the Cidade da Cultura in Santiago de Compostela. The gathering brought together representatives from Galicia’s social, economic, institutional and political spheres. Led by Fundación Juana de Vega and the University of Santiago de Compostela’s Territorial Laboratory (LaboraTe), in collaboration with Fundación RIA, Fundación Roberto Rivas and the Professional Association of Journalists of Galicia, the process involved the active participation of more than 120 organisations and institutions.

Fundación RIA coordinated one of the Forum’s six thematic working groups, focused on governance and public-private-community cooperation in territorial planning. The outcomes of this work were presented during the event by Manuel Rodríguez, Director of Fundación RIA, and Inés Santé, researcher at LaboraTe-USC, as part of a session dedicated to territorial planning and governance.

The proposals developed through the process seek to strengthen coordination between public administrations, improve existing collaboration mechanisms and enhance the collective capacity to address the territorial challenges facing rural Galicia.

The Forum’s main outcome was the launch of the Alliance for a Rural Resilient Territory, an open collaboration network bringing together individuals, organisations, public institutions and other stakeholders committed to territorial planning and the active management of rural and forestry landscapes. Conceived as a long-term initiative, the Alliance aims to translate the Forum’s proposals into practical actions through dedicated working groups and pilot initiatives capable of delivering tangible impact on the ground. Individuals and organisations interested in joining the Alliance can do so through the Rural Resilient Territory Forum’s website.
