‘Small is big’, a new exhibition at Casa RIA
On Thursday 10 September 2026, Casa RIA will inaugurate ‘Small is big. The story of Barbanza marmelades’, an exhibition which, taking the citrus marmalades developed by Fundación RIA as its starting point, addresses broader issues related to the future of food, the use of local resources and the processing of products as a strategy for generating value in the territory.
In mid-2025, RIA launched an initiative to explore how citrus fruits from family orchards in Barbanza –a historically underutilised resource– could be turned into an opportunity to boost new economic activities linked to the region. A year later, and thanks to the collaboration of Asociación Daquídarredor, the project took shape in the form of orange and lemon marmalades with a unique identity.
Now, Casa RIA is hosting an exhibition that reflects on the experience of this project to explore the value of small-scale food production and the potential of Galicia’s horticultural landscape, characterized by its agrobiodiversity.
Through photographs, videos, texts and maps, the exhibition showcases the characteristics of the Galician region, analysing the typical Galician vegetable garden and local crop varieties, whilst exploring strategies to promote their economic viability, such as collaborative kitchens.
The opening of ‘Small is big’ will take place at Casa RIA on Thursday 10 September, featuring a presentation and guided tour by the foundation’s team, followed by a jam tasting. Admission is free and open to all, subject to availability.
