The Common Grounds project is looking for artists for its residencies in Galicia, France, and Bulgaria

5 May 2025

Common Grounds, a European initiative funded by the Creative Europe programme and supported by the Carasso Foundation, is launching a call for artists to participate in its research and production residencies in Galicia, France, and Bulgaria. Fundación RIA is a partner in the project, along with La Citadelle de Marseille (France) and Gradoscope (Bulgaria).

The project, taking place between 2024 and 2026, aims to explore new narratives about soil and its relevance in contemporary societies. Through collaboration between artists, researchers, and local communities, Common Grounds addresses ecological, democratic, and urban challenges from a creative and interdisciplinary perspective.

The open call is addressed to artists from a range of disciplines, including visual arts, architecture, photography, performing arts, and digital arts.

Three artists will be selected to jointly take part in three research and production residencies, one in each of the partner locations. The residency programme spans 6 months, from August 2025 to May 2026:

—Residency in Marseille (18 August – 12 October 2025)
—Residency in Galicia (27 October – 21 December 2025)
—Residency in Sofia (March to May 2026)

Selected participants must be residents of Bulgaria, France, or Galicia. Each artist will receive financial support covering artistic fees, accommodation, production assistance, and travel expenses.

To encourage the broadest possible participation, Common Grounds has extended the application deadline to 25 May.

Submit your application in English before the deadline, including your CV, portfolio, and letter of interest. All documentation related to the open call can be found here.
