A Panda da Dá, a space of opportunities for sustainable land management of the land

Between May and June 2025, Casa RIA hosts an exhibition on A Panda da Dá, a estate that Finsa and Fundación RIA have worked together to consolidate as a space of opportunity for the forestry sector. A programme of public events complements the exhibition, offering a chance to explore the estate’s multiple dimensions.

A Panda da Dá is a living laboratory of sustainable forest management, shaped by 35 years of responsible practice.

The comprehensive assessment and masterplan developed by Fundación RIA and Finsa identified resources, needs and synergies, which led to an international ideas competition—fostering shared learning and innovation.

This experimental space presents a replicable model in which the timber cycle—from seed to architectural rehabilitation—brings together production, restoration and community.

The exhibition at Casa RIA features four laboratories (forestry, planning, connections and design), each applying a phase of the process and demonstrating how the timber chain can generate added value while caring for the land.

A special programme extends the exhibition at Casa RIA through events taking place throughout June and early July, all linked to its core themes.

Programme of activities

On 28 May 2025, Casa RIA opened the exhibition dedicated to A Panda da Dá, a forestry space aiming to establish itself as a living laboratory for territorial management, demonstrating that timber production and ecosystem conservation can go hand in hand.

Building on thirty years of sustainable forest management experience developed by Finsa on the estate, the exhibition also presents the process carried out in 2024 in collaboration with RIA: a shared reading of the landscape, the identification of resources, and the organisation of an international ideas competition as a planning tool.

“Da terra e da xente” invites three community woodlands to share their experiences on caring for the land, biodiversity, and the future challenges of community management.

Participants include:
— Erundina Louro, Chair of the CMVMC of Antas A Lama
— Ovidio Queiruga, Chair of the CMVMC of Baroña
— Xosé Antón Araúxo, Chair of the CMVMC of Couso

The discussion will be moderated by Adolfo Cordero, professor in the Department of Ecology at the School of Forestry Engineering, University of Vigo.

“Territorial Ecosystems from the Venice Biennale” is based on the research carried out for Internalities: Architectures for Territorial Equilibrium – the project representing Spanish architecture at the Venice Architecture Biennale – which explores alternative ways of producing energy through the care of landscape and community.

The event focuses on the case of the Eume River basin as an alternative model for local and diversified energy generation in balance with biodiversity and social equity, featuring Manuel Bouzas, co-curator of Internalities; Aurora Armental and Stefano Ciurlo, architects from Estar; and photographer Luis Díaz Díaz, who lead the project’s energy research strand.
