Forma da Vizinhança is a publication that invites readers to reflect on how the contemporary city is built and experienced through its most everyday spaces. The book emerged from the festival of the same name, developed across eight locations in the city of Braga, and proposes a shared reflection on the city, neighbourhood life and the possibilities of building new forms of coexistence.
The publication is organised into two complementary volumes. FORMA brings together mappings, surveys, oral histories and critical essays on the recent expansion of Braga, including contributions by the geographer Álvaro Domingues. VIZINHANÇA documents the architectural and artistic programme of the festival, including eight public space installations developed by architecture teams from Portugal, Galicia and Cape Verde, exploring different ways of thinking about the relationship between public space, neighbourhood and collective practice.
The presentation at Casa RIA also aims to create a space for encounter and conversation around shared experiences between northern Portugal and Galicia, recent urbanisation processes, culture, and the possibilities of imagining other forms of neighbourhood life.
The session will feature Daniel Duarte and Fernando Ferreira, members of the festival’s curatorial and organisational team, as well as Manuel Bouzas, who participated in the festival through his intervention in Fontainhas aimed at recovering a former village.
The presentation will take place at Casa RIA (Virxe da Cerca, 6) at 18:30. Due to limited capacity, prior booking is required via eventos@casaria.org.
